Fantastic Four: 10 Things That Could Save The Reboot

8. Use Doombots Wisely

The good Doctor is sometimes written as being a technopath, being able to control machines with his mind. He uses this ability to control robotic doubles of himself. While "Doombots" are a staple in the comics, there is a real risk in how they could be used in the film reboot. We've learned two things from "Man of Steel" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron". The first is that viewers are inherently bothered by the needless killing of innocents when a fight breaks out in a populated area. The second is that you can have mass destruction without all the death if our heroes are fighting humanoid robots. Both cause a problem in regard to Doombots. Using old-school Doombots would feel too similar to the Avengers. The villain controlling hordes of robots is way too on the nose. "Ultimates" Doombots are actually people who are being mind-controlled through high-tech tattoos. It's a gamble, but the new school tattoo-bots may be more in line with the ambiance of a darker film like this. Higher risk, higher payoff for the audience.
