The Fast & The Furious: Ranking Every Movie From Worst To Best
8. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
2 Fast 2 Furious isn't even a bad film, really: it's just a little misguided. Most will point to its unforgivable lack of Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto as indication of its biggest issue, but it's more to do with what he represents to the core narrative.
Increasingly, the series has focused on the idea of "family" - in fact a drinking game involving shots every time it's mentioned would kill you - and Dom is central to that premise. He might be a tough old daddy bear, but he's the heart of the series, and his absence proves beyond any reasonable doubt that the franchise is not solely about muscle cars and machismo.
It also doesn't help that the story is the worst of the series: the newly introduced Roman Pearce is far from finding the real comedic groove he does later, his dynamic with Brian is not organic and it's all a little dull. Still, at least the villain - Cole Hauser's Carter Verone- is strong enough to inspire real malice, and Eva Mendes is actually pretty good in it.
