The Favourite Review: 8 Ups & 1 Down
4. Nicholas Hoult's Hilarious Performance
Though much awards attention is being paid to Colman, Weisz and Stone, it's a shame that the movie's other big acting powerhouse has been largely ignored, and that's Nicholas Hoult.
As the absurdly pompous MP Robert Harley, Hoult's antagonist is the definition of a love-to-hate character.
Kitted out in a giant wig and make-up while touting a plummy accent, Harley is an hysterical thorn in the side of the central female characters, and a colossal cinematic boob in his own right.
In a just world Hoult would be in the mix for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, but sadly he's mostly fallen upon deaf ears, perhaps due to the fair brevity of his part.
Still, he makes pure gold with what he has, delivering the finest performance of his career in the process.
