Dark Flash's continued tinkering with the timeline causes a calamitous multiversal incursion, if you like, with numerous universes getting dangerously close to one another and even colliding outright.

This gives the movie an excuse to provide fan service glimpses at many of these different universes, each of which feature iconic renditions of DC characters, largely brought to dubious life with some highly questionable, deeply offputting CGI.

The best and least-offensive of the bunch, on a count of them still being alive to consent to their image being used, is Nicolas Cage.

Cage appears briefly as a version of Superman fighting a giant mechanical spider - a reference to the sadly shelved Superman Lives project which Cage nearly starred in in the 1990s.

Elsewhere a crude digital puppet of Christopher Reeve's classic Superman is shown alongside another of Helen Slater's Supergirl - the latter, again, at least alive to give her permission - while we also catch brief glimpses of Adam West's Batman and George Reeves' Superman among others.

This is sure to be the most controversial aspect of the entire film, some feeling that the CGI recreations of dead actors are harmless fan service, while others see it as a disturbing sign of where modern filmmaking is headed.

Either way, the VFX renditions of these characters are absolutely horrible for the most part - ironically resembling lifeless waxworks more than anything.
