The Flash Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Benjamin Wallfisch's Excellent Musical Score

Benjamin Wallfisch, who previously composed the scores for director Andy Muschietti's It films, returns to provide the score for The Flash, and it's an absolute banger.

Much of Wallfisch's work here is very clearly indebted to Alan Silvestri's brassy Back to the Future score - and given the film's subject matter, that's evidently no coincidence.

Wallfisch melds this orchestral pomp with pulsing electronic elements to thrilling effect, and once Keaton's Batman shows up, he fittingly apes the gothic stylings of Danny Elfman's work on the Tim Burton movies, even flat-out recalling Elfman's iconic Batman motif at one point.

While not an all-timer superhero movie score by any means, Wallfisch's soundscape nevertheless compliments the visuals consistently well throughout.
