The Girl In The Spider's Web Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

1. Roque Baños' Intense Musical Score

This movie's musical score was always going to prove inferior to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' searing work on the Fincher film, but Álvarez's usual composer Roque Baños nevertheless does a fine job distinguishing his work from the glut of generic movie thriller scores.

Smartly opting to go in a totally different direction to Reznor and Ross, Baños ditches their electronic-infused stylings and tends towards a more classically operatic style which, while perhaps a bit jarring at first, is entertainingly bombastic for the majority.

From the smaller, quieter moments to the big, absurd ones, Baños' score remains an easy stylistic highlight, if like most other good things in the film, it was clearly deserving of a stronger accompanying movie.
