15 Greatest Character Names In American Film History

11. Beatrix Kiddo ("Kill Bill")

It is unfortunate that so few of these memorably cheesy names relate to women. The majority of these great fictional names stem from American action films, and disturbingly few of these are centered around female protagonists. This is, hopefully, about to change, however. Despite of all this, in 2003 Quentin Tarantino presented us with what was in many ways a breakthrough-character. Initially, Uma Thurman's revenge-craving kung fu-fighting "heroine" was only known to us as "The Bride", due to the traumatic event in the film's backstory which triggered the bulk of the two films' story. With these two films, Tarantino built on the honorable legacy of actresses such as Pam Grier, Tura Satana, Sigourney Weaver, Anne Parillaud and Linda Hamilton, and reminded the audience that the sex of our action hero really doesn't matter. It isn't until the end of the second part of this duology; "Kill Bill - Volume 2", that we are presented with the Bride's real name: Beatrix Kiddo. Apart from sounding bad ass, Beatrix is a centuries old name of Latin origin, meaning "traveller", which in the context of the films' seems quite fitting. Also, any name that ends with the letter "x" is instantly recognizable. And the surname; Kiddo, has a cool ring to it, as well. Then again, I'm not sure this is a name you'd find in the real world. But that doesn't matter.
