The Hangover Part 3: 5 Reasons It's Hard To Be Optimistic

4. The First Trailer Was A Huge Misfire

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKE-RXR_XIs Other than the final sequence with the giraffe, the first trailer was really bad. It was consciously produced as a parody of trailers for films that are part of big budget, long-running action franchises but the whole thing fell flat because it was missing any kind of warmth or humour. A lot of people are speculating that this was to make the point that it€™s not going to be like the previous films but if you make a trailer for a comedy film, it needs to have both jokes and a basic plot setup. The only story setup in the trailer is that Alan€™s father has died and the only real jokes are Alan singing at the funeral (which doesn€™t really have much comedic impact) and the incredibly funny giraffe sequence. Beyond that, all the scenes are framed to look like a big budget action film. Which is pretty the much the worst way you can trail a comedy film regardless of how well known its brand is and how anticipated it is. A bad trailer is usually indicative of a bad film and this one isn€™t likely to bring in new fans.
