The Hateful Eight Script Leak: 8 Spoilers From Quentin Tarantino's Western
8. The Characters
John Ruth: A bounty hunter and one of two protagonists, who many believe would have been played by Michael Madsen. Major Marquis Warren: A Northern army officer and fellow bounty hunter who makes John's acquaintance at the beginning of the story. He would almost certainly be played by Samuel L Jackson, as the role is seemingly tailor-made for him in every possible way. Chris Mannix: By his own declaration, he is apparently the newly-minted Sheriff of Red Rock (where everyone is heading) and son of a famed renegade. I could have feasibly seen him being played by someone like Walton Goggins, who had a brief supporting role in Django Unchained. Daisy Domergue: The prisoner Ruth is transporting, a sassy, tough, no-nonsense broad who would have been an interesting role to cast. Uma Thurman is probably too old now, so it might have required some new blood for Tarantino. O.B. (pronounced "Obie"): A skilled stagecoach-driver who is pulling Ruth's coach throughout the journey. Christoph Waltz would fit this one like a glove, though it's a smaller, more composed role than his ones in previous QT films. Bob: A Frenchman who is running Minnie's "haberdashery" which Ruth, Warren, Daisy and Mannix stop in at. Jean Dujardin, perhaps? Oswaldo Mobray: An English hangman who can only be played by Tim Roth, no question. General Sanford Smithers: A Confederate General in the army who is at Minnie's joint when the others arrive. This is widely believed to be the role Bruce Dern was circling. That's the Hateful Eight themselves, though in addition to those parts, there are several other supporting characters, namely a Calamity Jane-type stagecoach driver called Judy, who QT notes in the script has a Kiwi accent, almost certainly meaning she would be played by Zoe Bell. And now, on with the story itself.
