The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - 10 Essential Scenes It Should Include

1. The Animal Servants In Beorn's House

After escaping the Misty Mountains, the company travels to the house of Beorn. Beorn is a truculent shape-changing woodsman, whom Gandalf knows but seems to approach with some caution. Gandalf distracts Beorn from the fact that he€™s about to entertain a large part of dwarves with a compelling story and the gradual, one-by-one revealing of the dwarves. Beorn eventually agrees to shelter them for the night, and provide them with supplies before they entering Mirkwood. One of the best parts of this encounter occurs during dinner. Beorn invites the group to dinner and they enter his house. While sitting at his table, they are served by various animal companions of Beorn€™s; they bring the food, tend the fire, etc. This is admittedly weird, and goes much farther into the fairy-tale realm than do other parts of the The Hobbit. And it risks making Beorn€”a pretty awesome and fearsome character€”into a comical element of the story. But as I€™ve said, this whimsical nature of The Hobbit is essential to its success, and a scene like this goes along with other light-hearted bits of the book. And given Jackson€™s inventiveness in depicting things like the Ents in The Two Towers, he could probably do a great job with this scene. So there are the ten scenes I think The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey should include. What do you think? Are these not that important/unfilmable? Are there others that should definitely be included?
