9. Azog Wont Feature Much

In The Hobbit book Azog gets one mention and that isnt even by name. In that universe he was long dead by the time the dwarves set out to reclaim Erebor, which makes his presence in this trilogy suggest he was resurrected to fill one particular role from late in the book; hell be the person who (once again spoiler alert, although its probably too late) kills Thorin. But thats for another day and another film. From all evidence it looks like Azog will be playing a rather slight role in The Desolation Of Smaug. Aside from there being a substantial amount of plot to cover already, the fact that so far weve only seen one shot of him across two trailers suggests there isnt actually that much footage of him. Logically, where could he fit into events? Theres only really the subplot of orcs attacking the elves - where it seems this shot comes from - where he can fit without it being obtrusive. Its really a good idea to play his role down in this middle film; the villain base is covered more than satisfactorily by the reveal of Smaug and development of the Necromancer. Hopefully itll make his eventual role all the more shocking.
