The Hobbit Part 2 - 5 More Things We Learned From The New Trailer

4. Beorn's Role Seems Small

The Hobbit 2 One thing the trailer tells us by virtue of not telling us is that Beorn's role in the movie appears to be very small. Readers of the book will remember Beorn as the strange, hermetical shapechanger who houses the dwarves after they escape from the mines early in the book. He is a fairly big character in the book, who certainly provides some of the more memorable moments. Despite this, across the full trailer and the teaser trailer from some time ago, we have been shown just a few seconds of footage of a bear. I am presuming the bear is Beorn in his favoured form. In a movie where every small event has been extended to within an inch of its life it seems strange that Beorn's role has apparently been far reduced. The role is being played by Mikael Persbrandt in the movies. He is an actor from Swedish television who is previously unknown to British and American audiences. This also doesn't bode well for Beorn's chances of getting much screen time.
