The Hobbit Trilogy: 10 Dumbest Moments
3. Legolas Vs Bolg
The entire Legolas/Bolg sequence at the end of The Battle Of The Five Armies is one of the most ridiculously overblown action sequences in film, created purely to give Legolas something to do other than sulk over Tauriel. It's clear just how pieced together and rushed this whole rivalry is. At the end of The Desolation Of Smaug, we watch Legolas chase Bolg out of Laketown - in The Battle Of The Five Armies this entire scene has been disregarded. Did Legolas just randomly stop chasing him? What happened? It's yet another symptom of Jackson attempting to find enough story to fill out his films, rather than filling his films with story.
From the knocking over of the stone tower using a legless beast (seriously?) to the structure somehow supporting a heated battle to Legola's now infamous ability to run up falling stones, the entire sequence is a weightless CGI-fest that's rendered pointless by the fact we know he's going to survive anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgQSm0uSUtk
