The House Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The Gags Are Incredibly Hit & Miss

The House Amy Poehler
Warner Bros.

Make no mistake, this is a classic example of a scattershot comedy that has some uproarious laughs, but they're peppered throughout a script that just doesn't try hard enough to be funny or clever for the most part.

The hit-miss gag ratio is all over the place, and there are lengthy stretches of the movie where joke after joke just bombs or is mildly amusing at best. The big laughs come every now and then, but considering the quality of the cast and the fantastic work the two leads in particular have put out in the past, this really should've been so, so much funnier.
