The House Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

1. There's An Awesome Fight Club Parody

The House Fight
Warner Bros.

Though a lot of the film's pop-culture references end up falling a little flat, there's an extremely amusing extended homage to David Fincher's classic Fight Club when the Johansens get the smart idea to allow their friends to settle their differences and fight in their casino...as long as the house can take odds on it.

Cue an entertaining montage of fights set to a moody tune clearly intended to resemble The Dust Brothers' fantastic score for Fight Club, and shot with grimy cinematography meant to ape the look of Fincher's film.

It's subtle enough that it's not completely on-the-nose and can be easily missed by the uninitited, but also immediately recognisable if you've seen Fight Club enough times. It's laugh-out-loud funny and without question the film's best referential gag.
