The Hunger Games: 10 Massive Spoilers For The Final Two Movies
9. Peeta Gets Tortured By The Capitol
A notable absence from the climax of Catching Fire was Peeta Mellark - Katniss' friend, protector and sometimes lover. During the chaotic ending to the Games, Peeta was abducted by the Capitol and taken into the nefarious clutches of President Snow. It is there that Peeta begins Mockingjay, far from the rebellion and far from the woman that he loves. But things get even worse when Peeta is reintroduced into the story. Due to the mind warping effect of tracker jacker venom, Peeta has been brainwashed by the Capitol into believing that Katniss is acting against him rather than in the interests of Panem. He is used as a weapon by the Capitol in order to try to manipulate Katniss into walking away from the rebellion. This aspect of the film version of Mockingjay is going to present a huge challenge for young actor Josh Hutcherson. Peeta's arc is difficult, complex and tough to portray, so it's certainly the most difficult job of Hutcherson's short career. Hopefully, he can pull it off.
