The Hunger Games: 10 Massive Spoilers For The Final Two Movies

10. Katniss Becomes The Symbol Of The Rebellion

At the end of previous installment Catching Fire, the rebellious Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee informed Katniss that she had been rescued from the Games arena in order to act as a symbolic figurehead for the coming uprising against the Capitol. The Mockingjay book begins with Katniss resistant to the idea of being used to further the political cause of District 13 leader Alma Coin. It will come as no surprise to anyone who has seen the trailers for Mockingjay - Part 1 that Katniss accepts the task eventually and becomes the "Mockingjay" symbol. She is used as the poster girl for the movement against President Snow and preserved by the forces of District 13 as a symbol of morale for their troops. The Mockingjay arc has been building since Katniss was given the symbol as a pin prior to her first stint in the Hunger Games. The way in which she adopts the symbol as her persona in the final book is a hugely satisfying pay-off that helps to drive the rebellion to the heights it needs to reach.
