The Identity Of Mads Mikkelsen’s Doctor Strange Villain Revaled

Now Civil War's pretty much wrapped up its theatrical run (and probably securing its place as the biggest film of 2016 in the process), it feels about the right time to start looking forward to the next big Marvel Cinematic Universe release, Doctor Strange. Although if you do, you'll quickly realise we actually know very little about the film.

The teaser trailer was released back in April with strong emphasis on the tease; it basically set up the character's development from surgeon to sorcerer, with a bit of Inception-influenced action for good measure, but in terms of actual plot was pretty secretive (not that that's a bad thing). Case in point: we're only just now learning who exactly Mads Mikkelsen's villain actually is.

Oh, there's been endless speculation and rumour, but now we have some confirmation thanks to a Marvel Minimates press release (looks like Lego were beaten to the punch this time); he's Kaecilius, a sorcerer who in the comics was a disciple of Baron Mordo, played in the film by Chiwetel Ejiofor. As Mordo looks to be an ally of Strange here, it's likely this is another of Marvel's loose villain adaptations (see: Malekith, Ronan, Zemo), so probably isn't all that revealing. Still, nice to know, eh?
