The Incredibles: Is The Sequel Better Than The Original?
7. Plot
The basic plot to both Incredibles movies are fairly similar - while one of the Parr parents is out fighting crime, the other stays at home to look after the family before they all come together to fight at the end. Obviously this is just the basic plot, the movies do have their differences.
While The Incredibles saw Mr Incredible re-living his glory days in a world where supers are no longer tolerated, the battle with both Syndrome and the Underminer triggered the main plot for the sequel. Where public opinion of supers is lower than ever before, Elastigirl is forced to fight for the super community as a whole against a background of discrimination.
After both Captain America Civil War and Batman Vs Superman tackled the issue in recent years, the idea of superheroes becoming pariahs to the world has become slightly tedious and overdone. The landscape of the movie industry is completely different now compared to 14 years ago, with so many superhero films being made. If Incredibles 2 were to have been released as little as two or three years earlier this would have been a fresh take on the superhero genre, but unfortunately Pixar were beaten to punch by both Marvel and DC.
