The Incredibles: Is The Sequel Better Than The Original?
1. Overall
When comparing the two movies by these categories, the winner is The Incredibles, by a score of 4-3. A margin of victory this narrow is also reflected in the respective Rotten Tomatoes scores of the movies. The Incredibles sits at an almost perfect 97%, while Incredibles 2 sits just below at 94%. This seems like a very fair representation of the movies, as they both exceptionally fun movies, but the original just sneaks it.
Though the score was in favour of The Incredibles, not all categories are created equal, with some holding more import toward the success of a movie. Arguably two of the most important aspects of a movie are the plot and, particularly in a superhero movie, the villain. Both categories in which the original movie was best.
The Incredibles also has the intangible nostalgia behind it, with viewers who grew up watching it as a child in 2004 always likely to hold it in higher regard than any sequel.
Though it couldn't quite top it's predecessor, Incredibles 2 is one of the strongest sequels Pixar has ever put out, and quite possibly the strongest movie of the franchise since Toy Story 3. Let's hope we don't have to wait 14 more years for the threequel.
