The Kid Who Would Be King Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs

6. Angus Imrie Steals The Show

The Kid Who Would Be King Angus Imrie
Fox

There is one actor in this movie who blatantly stands above the rest and effortlessly steals every scene he's in, and that's Angus Imrie (son of actress Celia Imrie).

Imrie appears in the film as a disguised version of Merlin - otherwise played by Patrick Stewart - who assumes a youthful form in order to connect with protagonist Alex (Louis Ashbourne Serkis) and his heroic pals.

He does an exemplary job not only embodying the spirit of Stewart, but also injecting the film with an insane amount of energy, to say nothing of his splendid comedic timing.

It certainly helps that he's given the movie's best material, a classic fish-out-of-water hero if there ever was one, and he rises to the occasion terrifically well. Seriously, keep your eyes on this kid, because he just might be going places.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
