The Kid Who Would Be King Review: 6 Ups & 2 Downs
1. It's Two Hours Long (For No Reason)
Though the film certainly isn't ever boring, its two-hour run-time does feel a tad excessive given the material the cast is working with.
There are a number of overly wordy, expository sequences which feel unnecessarily drawn-out, causing the film to take a little too long to get where it needs to be going.
The worst offender, however, is the third act, which builds to a neat crescendo...and then drags on for another half-hour after the heroes realise they have yet another battle to fight.
Clearly Cornish could've combined the latter two showdowns into one and brought the film in at a more reasonable 100 minutes. Given that this is a lighter-than-air action-comedy, it should've boasted a snappy length to match.
But these issues aside, The Kid Who Would Be King hits most of its targets with sure aplomb. Here's everything it gets right...
