The Little Mermaid: 8 PERFECT Choices To Complete The Cast

5. Rhys Darby As Scuttle

King Tritan Terry Crews
Fox

Rhys Darby has only really played one role his entire career, and there’s a perfectly logical explanation for that; he’s bloody good at it.

As the (often unintentionally) funny oddbod, Darby has shone in Jumanji, The X-Files, Flight Of The Conchords and What We Do In The Shadows, as well as having a brilliant recurring role in Bob’s Burgers and a guest spot on The Simpsons. It’s these last two in particular which could prepare him for Scuttle, as despite his often hilarious facial acting, he manages to be great with just his voice too.

The New Zealander forms a great pick for the eccentric seagull, as they both add the humour without the need for jokes.

John Mulaney has been suggested for Scuttle too, especially after his scene stealing Into The Spider-Verse performance as Spider-Ham. He’s a great pick with masses of experience in improv and scripted comedy.

While he leans slightly into self deprecating though, Darby goes for zany; in an ideal world, the Kiwi feels like a better bet, but only just. Mulaney’s Scuttle would still be a joy to behold.

Awkwafina is apparently in talks for Scuttle, but she doesn’t seem made for the role as Darby & Mulaney are.
