The Little Mermaid: 8 PERFECT Choices To Complete The Cast

4. Timothée Chalamet As Eric

King Tritan Terry Crews
Sony Pictures Classics

Timothée Chalamet is one of Hollywood’s fastest growing stars, and after phenomenal performances in Call Me By Your Name and Ladybird, looks set for a long and successful career. With his clean cut princely looks, he makes an ideal Eric too.

Eric didn’t have all that much about him in the first movie, but you’d imagine they’ll want to develop their characters a bit further in the remake. Of course, they might opt to save money on a relative unknown as Eric, but with Halle Bailey starring in her first blockbuster of note, Disney would be smart to pair her up with someone with experience.

Chalamet’s big performances have come opposite more experienced stars (Armie Hammer & Saoirse Ronan as well as Steve Carrell in Beautiful Boy), so it would be interesting to see the dynamic flipped.

He’s sung a little bit in movies before, and sounded like he was decent, but whether or not he could play such a big part and match Halle Bailey’s voice is a different thing entirely. He did once sing Frank Ocean’s Siegfried at Ocean during an interview, to which Ocean laughed and politely asked him to stop.

Let’s just say the jury’s still out on this one.
