The Lone Ranger: 10 Things You Probably Didn't Know

2. I Am Crow

I am Crow Speaking of Johnny Depp, when Jerry Bruckheimer released the first official image of Tonto via his Twitter account the general reaction from fans was a collective "Hu?". You only have to take a quick peek at Depp's Tonto to see how much he looks like Captain Jack Sparrow with a dead bird on his head. To help clarify things a little Depp revealed that his inspiration for Tonto actually came from a painting by Kirby Sattler called "I am Crow" which is supposed to depict a Native American Crow Man however Sattler himself admits that he did zero research when painting the image meaning Depp's inspiration was a historically inaccurate image of an Indian. On his website Sattler states "I am not a historian, nor an ethnologist," and notes that he hopes his paintings "satisfy my audience's sensibilities of the subject without the constraints of having to adhere to historical accuracy." Way to go Johnny.
