The Lone Ranger: 10 Things You Probably Didn't Know

1. Four Legs Good. Two Legs Bad

Tonto and Silver The Lone Ranger When Johnny Depp appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman recently he told the host about an incident on set that could easily have left him "horrifically mangled" but amazingly he survived and is as pretty as ever. Apparently during shooting Depp's character Tonto was riding his horse Scout at high speed when the animal decided to jump some very minor obstacles which caused the actor to slip off its back, hanging on with a tenuous grip of the horses mane.
"All I saw in front of my eyes were these very muscular horse legs and striations of muscles moving, this kind of death machine. One word popped into my head: Hooves. Mind the hooves."
According to Depp he was faced with the choice of hanging on and risking death or dropping to the floor and ... well ... risking death by trampling. After being dragged along for 25 yeards Depp chose to let go of the horse and drop to the floor. Amazingly he was unhurt. The Depp incident wasn't the only heart in mouth moment during the shoot for The Lone Ranger. A crew member was injured at one point and a stunt diver was even killed. Hopefuilly not an omen for the films success when it finally hits cinemas this summer. The Lone Ranger rides into cinemas in the UK this August.
