The Lord Of The Rings: 10 Best Fighters In Middle-Earth Definitively Ranked

1. Tulkas

If Morgoth is Tolkien’s version of Satan, Tulkas is his homage to Thor; A golden-bearded bare-knuckle pugilist who served as the Champion of the Valar and is the closest thing in Middle-earth to a god of war.

While Manwë is the most powerful of the Valar, Tulkas is the strongest, a god who delights in wrestling and contests of strength and who laughs in both sport and in battle. He is the only being to have laughed in Morgoth’s face, and that happened while fighting him.

He was the last of the Valar to descend into Arda. For centuries those who went before him had struggled against Morgoth. At last Tulkas had had enough, and came to their aid. Morgoth immediately fled.

This would not be their last confrontation. During the War for the Sake of the Elves it was Tulkas who broke the stalemate, personally duelling Morgoth, binding him in chains, then dragging him back to Valinor to face judgment.

He is Middle-earth’s ultimate fighter, a god you’d love to share a beer with but someone you never want to get on the wrong side of.
