The Lord Of The Rings: 10 Best Fighters In Middle-Earth Definitively Ranked

2. Eärendil

A name that should be familiar to any fan who remembers Galadriel’s Phail, Eärendil was a half-elven mariner (and father of Elrond) who sailed to Valinor to plead for the Valar’s aid in fighting Morgoth. That plea was answered, ushering in the most cataclysmic conflict ever fought in Middle-earth – the War of Wrath.

For forty years the Host of Valinor battled against Morgoth’s vast orc and Balrog armies, slowly but surely grinding them to dust. Then, just when it seemed that victory was assured, Morgoth released his greatest weapon, a fleet of dragons led by Ancalagon the Black. An assault so devastating that even the Valar were driven back.

It was at that moment that Eärendil, aboard his blessed ship Vingilot, arrived with the Eagles to turn the tide. Eärendil personally duelled Ancalagon, striking down the great dragon and sending it plummeting to the ground in ruin, winning the War of Wrath and ending Morgoth’s reign of terror in Middle-earth.

No other elf or human warrior in Middle-earth had ever fought so powerful an opponent and won, and in doing so Earendil proved himself the greatest non-divine fighter Middle-earth has ever seen.
