The Lord Of The Rings: 10 Best Fighters In Middle-Earth Definitively Ranked

8. Huan

Sauron Lord of the Rings
Harper-Collins

If there is one character in all of Tolkien’s vast lore who could lay claim to being the most overlooked and under appreciated of all time it is Huan. A great wolfhound of the Valar, he was immortal, tireless, and indomitable, prophesied to only be able to be killed by the greatest wolf who ever lived.

He would prove that power against no less an opponent than Sauron. The battle opened with Sauron sending every werewolf under his command against Huan, but the Hound of Valinor killed them all. Finally Sauron himself took the field, but, powerful as he was, Huan nevertheless subdued him, inflicting a humiliating defeat.

Huan’s next duel would be his greatest...and his last. In a fight for the ages the hound who could be killed only by the greatest werewolf who ever lived confronted Carcharoth, the werewolf no one believed could be beaten. Huan emerged victorious, but with the poison of the werewolf’s fangs coursing through him he would die shortly after.

It was a bittersweet end, but one that won the hearts of many a Tolkien fan, and elevated Huan to the status of one of his most powerful fighters.
