The Lord Of The Rings: 10 Best Fighters In Middle-Earth Definitively Ranked

4. Fingolfin

Sauron Lord of the Rings

Imagine a fighter so monumentally badass, so implacably hardcore, that he would walk alone to the gates of Hell and demand a duel with the Devil himself.

Enter Fingolfin, High King of the Ñoldor.

After seeing the devastation wrought on his kindred at the Battle of Sudden Flame, Fingolfin, in a fury so great those who saw him pass mistook him for a Vala, rode to the doors of Morgoth’s fortress of Angband and challenged the Dark Lord to single combat.

Thus began arguably the greatest duel ever fought in Middle-earth. Though massively outmatched in both size and strength Fingolfin dodged every one of Morgoth’s strikes, inflicting wound after wound of his own. Eventually the Elf Lord grew tired and Morgoth was able to drive him to the ground. Three times Morgoth struck him down and three times Fingolfin rose to his feet. Ultimately Morgoth pinned the Elf Lord down, but even as the life was crushed out of him Fingolfin stabbed Morgoth in the foot, a blow that would leave the fallen Vala with a permanent limp.

It was a duel Fingolfin could never realistically win, but in lasting as long as he did, successfully pitting pure skill against raw power, he cemented his place as a phenomenal, legendary warrior.
