The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Trailer Breakdown: 25 Things You Need To See

19. The Sixties Setting

Right there at the start of the trailer is a confirmation of when exactly The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is set, in case the clothes, music and all the other contextual cues hadn't tipped you off. Rather than trying to update the campy fun for an era where international espionage is more Edward Snowden than James Bond, they stuck with a period piece. Which explains why Mad Men's Jon Hamm was also considered for the Napoleon role. Again, whilst it looks like they're going to be having fun with the setting -using the fashion, subverting the era's backwards gender roles - it never tips over into kitsch, which is reassuring.
