Even though it's easy to miss some of the symbolism in The Matrix, most viewers should've noticed the parallels with Christianity.

Neo is a chosen one who dies but is resurrected with divine power. Just in case you missed that reference, Choi unsubtly calls Neo "my saviour" and "my own personal Jesus Christ".

Although many of these references are obvious, there's one that a lot of people didn't notice in the opening sequence. The licence plate on the Agents' car reads "IS 5416". This text invokes the Biblical parable, Isaiah 51:16, which states, "Behold, I have created the smith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its task, and I have created the destroyer to wreak havoc."

Even though it seems like a bunch of random letters and numbers, it's implying that Smith is the latest weapon created to destroy humanity.
