The Matrix Resurrections: 10 Mistakes From The Original Trilogy It Needs To Avoid

6. Don't Revisit The Architect

Many fans point to the first appearance of the Architect as the point when the Matrix sequels became a convoluted mess. As we went over before, besides rendering the story of the first Matrix moot by explaining it was no more than a machine plot, the architect's long, rambling exposition dump brought up a host of questions the Wachowskis had no intention of addressing in the follow-up film.

While the first movie possessed an aura of mystery that hinted at a larger fictional world beyond what was shown onscreen, the actual story proved easy to follow, with clearly defined goals and stakes. The narrative of the sequels grew so elaborate, it became clear the Wachowski's became lost in their own fictional maze and this was never more apparent than when they had the Architect literally sit down to explain to the audience what the plot of the movie was.

Should the architect return in some form in Resurrections, it will be a huge warning signs that Lana Wachowski has once more followed her own creation down the rabbit hole, and more likely than not lost sight of the narrative through-line that good storytelling lives by.
