The Matrix Resurrections: 10 Mistakes From The Original Trilogy It Needs To Avoid

7. Drop The Multiple Neos Storyline

One major misstep that rankled many fans of the original Matrix film came near the end of Reloaded. After Neo finally makes it to the Architect, the program running the Matrix, he reveals that Neo is in fact one of many versions of the One that have gone on the same journey before him. The Architect claims that the One is a recurring anomaly in the Matrix that is allowed to escape so that the Matrix can continue running smoothly.

This convoluted plot point undermined the stakes of the original film by making Neo no more than a cog in an elaborate machine. Neo's triumph in the first film was pre-ordained, which robbed the story of its impact. Obviously, the Wachowski's wanted to recapture some of the power of the mind-blowing reveal that reality is a computer simulation that made the first film so memorable, but this attempt fell flat on its face.

Fans would understand if Lana shunted this particular plot point to the side and a retcon that did away with it all together would be more than welcome.
