The Matrix Resurrections: 25 WTF Moments

15. There Was A Post-Revolutions Purge

The Matrix Resurrections
Warner Bros.

The Matrix Revolutions ended with Neo brokering a truce between the humans and Machines in order to eradicate Smith (Hugo Weaving) from the Matrix, with the Matrix being rebooted while anyone who wishes to leave it is given the chance to do so.

But Bugs explains to Neo that when the new version of the Matrix was uploaded, there was a purge of old programs, resulting in many being deleted, seemingly including the Oracle, who is said to be "gone" and doesn't appear throughout the film except for a brief snippet of archive footage.

Niobe later mentions that the Oracle spoke of a new power rising, but that's the last she heard of her.

Neo is naturally upset to consider that his sacrifice in Revolutions meant nothing if tyranny simply runs rampant again, but Bugs assures him that there was peace for a time, and that his actions have had major ramifications on both humans and Machines ever since.
