The Meg Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

1. The Surprisingly Likeable Child Character

The Meg Meiying
Warner Bros.

Child characters are always a huge gamble in action-adventure movies, but surprisingly enough, young Meiying (Shuya Sophia Cai), the daughter of Li Bingbing's character, is an adorable and charming addition to the cast.

It helps that she's cute as a button and gets a lot of the movie's best dialogue, trading cheeky quips with Statham throughout and basically avoiding most of the "annoying arbitrary child character" cliches.

If a sequel does indeed happen, hopefully they'll bring her back, because while the trailers suggested she was only in the movie to make it more appealing to Chinese audiences, she was actually an unexpected credit to the film.
