The Meg Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

Ups...

4. The Impressively High Production Values

The Meg
Warner Bros.

Easily the most laudable thing about this movie is how shockingly good it looks. Considering the film could've easily gotten away with looking pretty awful, it's a pleasant surprise that it actually boasts sharp, clear visual effects, throwing every penny of its stonking budget on the screen.

Given how ropey even far better blockbuster movies can look - Black Panther, for instance, touted some disappointingly rough CGI - the majority of the effects here are incredibly robust, basically making the film feel like a SyFy movie with a mega-budget.

The cinematography is also unexpectedly eye-popping, especially during the many underwater sequences, where green screen effects are integrated totally seamlessly for the most part.

Whatever complaints you'll have about the film, few will take issue with The Meg's visuals.
