The Mountain Between Us Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

2. The Nerve-Wracking Plane Crash Sequence

Well, at least the movie begins strong, right? It wastes little time at all getting its protagonists up into the air, and the subsequent plane crash is by far the best-executed part of the entire film.

Thanks to unexpectedly convincing visual effects and clever use of long takes (albeit presumably digitally-assisted), the build-up to the crash and subsequent payoff are bone-rattling visceral, staying with the actors at all times and creating the film's one true "wow" moment.

While it would've been unreasonable to expect the rest of the movie to be this thrilling and exciting, it is a top-notch sequence which shows every aspect of the film's production bringing their A-game all at once.
