1. The Dog Is Awesome

And if the idea of Idris Elba and Kate Winslet falling in love on a mountain isn't enough of a sell for you, the presence of a super-cute dog just might be.

After Beau Bridges' goofball pilot dies in the crash, he leaves behind his adorable canine, who the pair arbitrarily adopt as their companion throughout the adventure.

Sure, it's a relatively cynical ploy to make audiences more emotionally involved in what's going on, but the dog gives a great performance and probably creates the most truly likeable character in the film. Seriously.

If you can't get invested in a dog surviving the aftermath of the plane crash, are you even human? Again, it's a cheap trick, but it's actually pretty effective, especially as far as the rest of the movie is concerned.
