The Mountain Between Us Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

5. It's Surprisingly Dull

Selling a survival movie starring these two actors stranded on a mountain can't exactly be difficult, but it feels like the movie ultimately leans far too much on that inherent intrigue while rarely populating it with much more than that.

Twice Oscar-nominated director Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now, Omar) sadly can't bring much energy or interest to a screenplay that takes the easiest option almost every time.

Plus, the film frequently leaves Elba and Winslet's characters on their own and not exactly doing much exciting, so it's easy for your mind to wander or perhaps even check out entirely. To that end, if you really must watch this film, it's probably best seen streamed on a hungover Sunday afternoon when you've got nothing better to do.
