The Mountain Between Us Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

4. Ramin Djawadi's Overbearing Musical Score

Though Ramin Djawadi has received plenty of acclaim throughout his career for his work on TV shows such as Prison Break, Game of Thrones and Westworld, his wildly over-the-top musical score for this film is just too much of a muchness.

Djawadi gives himself over to the film's full-tilt, Oscar-baiting style and tone, ramping up the orchestra for those dangerous and emotional moments, to the point that it's distracting and actually ultimately takes away from several otherwise compelling sequences.

The compositions themselves are just fine, if rather workmanlike, but placed within the context of scenes that would play better with something more subdued, they don't work at all.
