4. Idris Elba & Kate Winslet Keep It Watchable

In even its worst moments, Idris Elba and Kate Winslet are trying, by God they are trying. Even when the film gets laughably sappy or the two don't have much more to do than squabble with one another, they're doing their level best to sell the whole shtick, and if you're going to make a movie like this, you couldn't really ask for two better actors to appear in it.

Again, they don't exactly have the fiery chemistry that perhaps would've made the romance more convincing, but they're both doing their earnest best to play the sometimes-silly material totally straight.

They won't be earning themselves any Razzie nods off the back of it and it's hardly a bad blip on their filmographies, because the acting chops that have won them so many fans over the years remain very much in place.
