The Mummy 1999 Vs The Mummy 2017: Which Is Better?

5. Action Sequences

Stephen Sommers did a fine job peppering the 1999 movie with fun action beats, from the opening Battle of Hamunaptra, to the riverboat shootout, the scarabs, and Imhotep's various attacks throughout, even if his death scene is rather anti-climactic.

The reboot boasts a thrilling plane crash sequence, but everything else is pretty damn forgettable, to be honest. Most of the action feels lazily lifted from other, better blockbusters, and the look of the film is simply too generic and boilerplate to rouse much interest.

Winner: Though it actually has less action than you probably remember, 1999 wins with its stronger melding of practical action and digital wizardry.
