There's been talk for a while that
The Mummy 3 will involve Asian Mummies and be set in China which initially I dismissed as just being that... "talk".... but today it seems there may be some truth to it.
IGN through
Latino Review are reporting that helmer
Rob Cohen was talking at Q & A session the other day where he confirmed that
Jet Li and
Michelle Yeoh had been cast in The Mummy 3 and that the film will take place in China. Interestingly, he also said that the main character won't be Rick (
Brendan Fraser) but rather his NOW 22 YEAR OLD SON and although Yeoh's character wasn't revealed, he said that Jet Li
"will be the head Mummy in a group of Mummies that were the Teracotta army." The casting of Michelle Yeoh is a good one, she is an extremely solid actress who I don't think I have ever seen but in a performance that wasn't 5 stars. Jet Li who is great at what he does, no doubt, but do we really need to see that in a Mummy movie? Can you imagine martial arts mummies that are choreographed alongside Rob Cohen's ramped up soundtrack and fast-cutting? source -
