7. The Lame, Obnoxious Jump Scares

The Nun
New Line Cinema

This shouldn't be surprising to anyone who's seen the trailer, but The Nun sadly gives in to perhaps The Conjuring franchise's basest instinct: littering the movie with lazy, predictable jump scares.

If you've seen more than a few horror films in your life, you'll likely see every single jump scare coming, because director Corin Hardy telegraphs them comically far in advance. Making plentiful use of irritatingly loud tension chords, the jumps aren't even effective or in any way unique.

While a few well-placed, creative jumps certainly would've been acceptable, sadly too many of the scares here feel thrown together without much imagination or effort at all.
