The Predator: 18 WTF Moments
3. The "Lovers' Death"
If you can work out what Black was trying to do with the characters of Baxley (Jane) and Coyle (Keegan-Michael Key), you win all the points. They start as enemies, basically, as the latter fires endless "your mother" gags at the other and then it's eventually revealed that they were actually very close before the crime that got Coyle sectioned (which Baxley was the only survivor of).
There's a hint that the two are romantically involved, but there's no actual follow-through on that in any real terms, but then the whole thing comes to a head when the Ultimate Predator mortally wounds both of them within a matter of seconds. They look as if they're going to die face-to-face - one sliced open, the other burnt and hung on a tree - and the shot is framed as if we're supposed to think it's the most romantic thing ever.
They then raise their guns and shoot each other, ending their misery as a sign of their... love? But it pretty much comes out of nowhere and it ends up being REALLY odd.
