The Predator: 7 Biggest Overlooked Positives

6. Sterling K Brown Is A Blast

Ultimate Predator
Fox

Credit where credit's due, almost everyone in The Predator puts in a fantastic performance, even if some of them have more to work with than others. The script may let them down- saddling certain individuals with clunky exposition and tasteless jokes- but they’re a capable bunch and each cast member get a few moments to shine.

Nevertheless, the highlight is undoubtedly Sterling K. Brown as Will Traeger, a human antagonist who surprisingly upstages the titular E.T as a villain. Indeed, whilst the aliens themselves are slightly mishandled throughout the movie (lacking their usual menace and given weirdly comical things to do), this sarcastic government agent is consistently there to pick up the slack. He's such a charismatic and engaging screen-presence, that you almost wish the film was a straight-up action movie about taking him down, rather than a clunky sci-fi.

What's more, Traeger is the only character in the film who actually feels like a traditional Shane Black creation: dispensing with killer quips and exuding effortless, sardonic cool. For the most part, the movie's dialogue is a mixed-bag, but almost every good line belongs to this guy, i.e. ‘’ They're large, they're fast, and f*cking you up is their idea of tourism’’
