The Predator Review: 5 Ups & 6 Downs

1. It Knows EXACTLY What It Is

The Predator
20th Century Fox

The best assessment of The Predator comes in the form of an analogy. It's like that one friend everyone has. He's the first to suggest shots, will often want to climb scaffolding or buildings while drunk, he probably ate a Tide pod. He does things "for the likes," has a general hatred for "boring people" and you worry about him. To outsiders, his appeal is limited, but you dearly love him despite it all. That's The Predator in a nutshell.

The film is pretty much the Fast & Furious of the Predator franchise. It is muscle-bound, not too bright and absolutely, self-consciously ridiculous. And it's clearly having an absolute whale of a time with it while sticking a middle finger up at everyone who curls a lip up at it in disdain. It's provocative, confident and ridiculous and it revels in the fact.

If you like the brand of high-octane, glossy nonsense that Fast & Furious provides, this is absolutely the film for you. But you should probably have guessed that already.

And now to the negatives...
