The Single Biggest Mistake Each MCU Film And TV Show Has Made

30. Avengers: Age Of Ultron - The Insulting Lack Of Risk-Taking

Avengers: Age of Ultron still stands as, quite arguably, the most disappointing MCU film to date, and while things like the overstuffed plot, awkward sequel-teasing and Hulk and Black Widow's totally forced love story didn't exactly help, it's arguable that the main reason this was such a let-down was the total lack of risk-taking, which honestly felt insulting.

Nothing particularly surprising happens in the film, it fails to do anything brave, it had no real effect on the wider franchise (aside from a tiny bit of Captain America: Civil War set-up) and the only hero who got killed off was Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a character who'd only just been introduced, so he wasn't exactly a character viewers had a big attachment to.

What if someone viewers actually knew had died? What if the Avengers had suffered a big failure during the climax? What if anything with any true dramatic weight had happened? Sadly, this movie is a very safe affair which ends with everything neatly wrapped up and back to normal, and that's the main reason why this movie was such a disappointment.

Is it a bad film? Definitely not. It's as well-acted as ever and it's often fun, but it's safe to say that we all wanted it to be better and bolder than it was. Also, it was a big mistake to kill off Quicksilver so soon, as he was actually really cool and Taylor-Johnson was very good as him.
