The Single Biggest Mistake Each MCU Film And TV Show Has Made

20. Captain Marvel - Failing To Build A Compelling Hero

As previously said, the spine of a superhero movie is its hero, and when the movie fails to build a compelling lead, that's a huge problem. Sadly, that's exactly what happened with the MCU's first female-led superhero film.

Captain Marvel is such a boring, personality-free character who's ruined by being too overpowered and by the screenplay failing to give her any sort of arc or character development. In addition to this, Brie Larson wasn't the right pick for the character in retrospect and she never quite convinces.

There were other issues, such as entirely routine directing, a bog-standard narrative and the film's beyond-ghastly explanation as to how Nick Fury lost his eye, but the deficiencies in the title character are arguably why this was perhaps the single most-mediocre MCU film to date. Given that this was the first entry in the franchise to headlined solely by a woman, they really should've done better.
